Spruddy (born Florian Kron) who made a name for himself fronting the German rocksteady formation Court Jester's Crew, has been focusing on his own solo career for some time now and with the aptly titled 'One' now also presents his album debut. Apart from the fact we couldn't find fault with any of the tracks on 'One', it was the Spruddy's original country-esque sounding voice that really drew our attention. For some instant recognizability there's 'Forwards Ever', a version over the Stars riddim, and 'Never Regret', a song that's quite clearly based on Beres Hammond's 'Rock Away'. On 'One ' Spruddy is also joined by a few guests and it was especially the lovers ballad 'Thunderstorm' featuring Saralène that drew our attention. With a track list counting barely eight songs, 'One' feels more like an EP than a full-fledged album, but one for which you'll definitely need the repeat button more than once. German gründlichkeit through and through!
