The title of this new Train To Roots long player says it all, as 'Declaration N.6' is the sixth album by the Sardinian reggae band. In the track list, 11 songs for which the band joined forces with Italian reggae veteran Bunna (Africa Unite), making an appearance in 'Nessuno Mai', and Milanese singer-songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist and monument from the Italian rock scene, Eugenio Finardi ('Parole E Musica'). For the cover of the album the band called on Sardinian artist Vincenzo Pattusi aka Ludo 1948. He used the I-interior of the Teatro Comunale Maria Caniglia in Sulmona as a backdrop, and filled the theatre with a series of characters all representing something for the different band members. We recognized Snoop Dogg, Mr. Spock, The Beatles at the time of 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' (which the cover of this album hints at), Alborosie, Superman, Fidel Castro, Albert Einstein and an Oompa Loompa (see Roald Dahl's 'Charlie And The Chocolate Factory'), but please feel free to scour the image yourself. In the intro of 'Roadblock' we briefly recognized the Stalag riddim, ragga-fans will love gyal tune 'Move It', and for 'Teddy Was' and 'Disco Sauna' the train accelerates to festive ska. The track list of 'Declaration N. 6' didn't disappoint anywhere, but we still prefer our Italian friends best when they're singing in their native tongue, so we were most taken with opener 'Better Run' (half in English, half in Italian), 'Sveglia' and 'Parole E Musica' (featuring the weathered voice of Eugenio Finardi). Until further notice, Train To Roots remains one of our favorite Italian bands!
