Out of all the reggae labels that were established in the UK since the 1970s, London based Fashion Records, founded by John MacGillivray and Chris Lane (also the guys behind the legendary Dub Vendor stores), was perhaps best in tune with the British reggae lover's ever evolving musical taste. Initially Fashion specialized in lovers rock releases (a nice example being Janet Lee-Davis' 'Missing You', an album that will soon be reissued by Reggae Archive Records), but the label really made its mark with the rise of British ragga. With a remix of Top Cat's' 'Request This Style' there's even a jungle track on the track list. The last song on this compilation is 'Herbal Dub', a solid UK dub track from Fashion Records's later years. More than excellent introduction to an iconic label in UK reggae history!
