As the title suggests 'Winston Riley, Quintessential Techniques' offers an overview of the biggest hits of Techniques, the label still run by Winston Riley (a founding member of The Techniques himself, hence the name choice for his label). With hits like Johnny Osbourne's 'Come Back Darling', the freaky 'Double Barrel' by Dave & Ansel Collins, and of course the indestructible 'Bam Bam' by Sister Nancy on the Stalag 17 riddim that just about became the label's trademark, the first disc of this double album focuses on the first glory period of Techniques, the 1970s. The release of the Stalag 17 Hardcore riddim, a digital reworking of the original Stalag 17 riddim, blew new life into Techniques in 1985, with Tenor Saw's 'Ring The Alarm' as best known example. The second CD focuses almost entirely on the digital craze of the 1980s. Nice overview.
