Is the whole Balkans craze already on its return or is it just time for something new? In any case, with 'Swing Diskoteka' the Eastblok Music label focuses on a new subgenre that is a mixture of Balkan music, klezmer and swing jazz from the nineteen twenties to forties. From swing jazz so-called Gypsy swing evolved in the 1930s, a genre defined by guitar virtuoso Django Reinhardt. With his legacy the music on 'Swing Diskoteka' has little in common (even though a track like 'Carantino Manouche' comes close), instead we're served up burlesque-beats by a series of artists most of which we got to know thanks to this compilation. Could this become the new hype? 'Swing Diskoteka' certainly sounds catchy enough!
